Angove Family Winemakers Family Crest Shiraz 2023, McLaren Vale

Vineyard: Sourced from low-intervention vineyards across McLaren Vale, including Blewitt Springs, Seaview and Clarendon, capturing a mix of soils, aspects and vine ages.

Winemaking: Fermented with indigenous yeasts in 70-year-old open concrete vats in the Vintage House. Pump overs and punchdowns were followed by short post-ferment maceration, basket pressing and maturation in new and aged French oak puncheons and hogsheads for 12–14 months before blending.

Deep crimson with an opaque purple core. Aromas of blackberry, black plum and blueberry are layered with dark chocolate, cracked black pepper and liquorice. Subtle cedar, mocha and baking spice add complexity while allowing the fruit to remain the focal point.

The palate is full-bodied with concentrated dark berry flavours supported by velvety tannins and beautifully integrated French oak. Notes of cocoa, savoury spice and fine cedar unfold through a richly textured palate before a long, polished finish with impressive balance and persistence.
