Planta Circa Ancestor Vine Cabernet Sauvignon 2024, Barossa Valley

Deep purple-crimson with an inky core, this ultra-rare Ancestor Vine Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced from the historic Zimmermann vineyard (Woodlands) on the outskirts of Lyndoch, believed to contain one of the oldest surviving plantings of Cabernet Sauvignon in Australia. Planted circa 1880 by Prussian settler P.F. Zimmermann, these ancient vines deliver a commanding, beautifully composed expression of the variety that already shows exceptional concentration, purity and aromatic intensity. Cassis, blackberry and black cherry aromas are framed by cedar, violets, dark cocoa and finely woven oak, revealing remarkable depth and site character.

With minimal intervention winemaking by Craig Stansborough, the palate is rich, layered and beautifully controlled. Concentrated black fruits form the core, supported by tight tannins and vibrant acidity. Nuances of graphite, tobacco leaf, dark chocolate and savoury spice unfold through the wine. It finishes with immense persistence. Only 667 bottles.

Vino Masters Score: 98/100
