Planta Circa Ancestor Vine Cabernet Sauvignon 2023, Barossa Valley

Planta Circa Ancestor Vine Cabernet Sauvignon 2023, Barossa Valley

Deep purple-crimson with an inky core, this ultra-rare Ancestor Vine Cabernet Sauvignon comes from the historic Zimmermann vineyard (Woodlands), one of the oldest surviving Cabernet Sauvignon plantings in Australia. Planted around 1880 by P.F. Zimmermann, the cooler 2023 vintage has produced a savoury and more developed expression. Generous blueberry and blackberry fruit mingles with black olive tapenade, violets, cedar, dark cocoa and savoury spice, offering lovely complexity and distinctive old-vine character.

Crafted with minimal intervention, the palate is full-bodied and richly layered. Succulent blue and black fruits are framed by rustic yet refined tannins and bright acidity, while savoury olive, graphite and tobacco notes build through the mid-palate. It concludes with impressive length, persistence and a wonderfully savoury, earthy finish that lingers with real presence. Only 798 bottles.

Vino Masters Score: 98/100
