Chalk Hill ‘Alpha Crucis’ Mataro Grenache 2024, McLaren Vale
Chalk Hill ‘Alpha Crucis’ Mataro Grenache 2024, McLaren Vale
Crafted by winemaker Renae Hirsch and sourced from two single vineyards in Blewitt Springs, McLaren Vale, with the Grenache planted in 1935 and the Mataro planted in 1960.
The result is a masterpiece, providing the wine with both old-vine intensity and a savoury ethereal depth.
Brilliant deep crimson with vibrant purple hues. Lifted aromas of ripe raspberry, wild strawberry and red plums. The palate is medium bodied with Mataro’s savoury depth and fine-grained tannins, complementing the vibrant Grenache red strawberry fruits. This all leads further with notes of red liquorice, dark cherry and spice building through the mid-palate, while bright musk acidity provides freshness and energy.
Vino Masters Score: 97 / 100 ★★★★★ A unique and beautifully balanced McLaren Vale blend, bringing together the vibrancy of old-vine Grenache with the savoury structure and depth of mature Mataro.
