The Stone Well Syrah 2023 is a distinctly European-styled Barossa ‘Syrah’, shaped by restraint rather than richness.

The nose is firmly savoury, with leather, dried herbs and savoury red cherry, gently lifted by soft spice. Secondary characters are already present, giving the wine a more resolved feel than its age might suggest.

On the palate, flavour persistence is the key feature. Red cherry and earthy notes carry through with moderate acidity and a lighter 13% alcohol, reflecting the character of the 2023 vintage. Primary fruit has largely receded, replaced by more evolved tones. Oak is subtle and well-integrated, suggesting older or seasoned barrels.

This is not a moorish, fruit-forward Syrah, but a restrained, Old World–inspired expression focused on balance rather than complexity.
