Gartner Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2021

95 Points

Colour: Deep ruby red with a vibrant crimson hue.

Aromatics: Classic Coonawarra lift of cassis, dark plum and violet florals, complemented by cedar, tobacco leaf, and a hint of mint.

Palate: Dense, plush, and beautifully balanced; quintessential Coonawarra. Layers of ripe blackcurrant and mulberry glide across the palate, framed by fine-grained tannins and a savoury undertone of dried herbs and black olive tapenade. The texture is luxurious and persistent, finishing long with freshness and drive.

Verdict: A superbly composed Cabernet capturing both the richness and precision of Coonawarra, built for the cellar yet already irresistible.

Backstory: After completing my studies at Roseworthy, one of my first cellar-hand roles was topping the Yalumba Menzies Cabernet Sauvignon back in 1998. This wine instantly took me back, the same pedigree, the same power and poise. Both are unmistakably classic examples of what makes Coonawarra truly great.
