Purple Hands Wines Planta Circa Ancestor Vine Grenache 2025, Barossa Valley
Purple Hands Wines Planta Circa Ancestor Vine Grenache 2025, Barossa Valley
Super textural from the outset, with a distinctly red-fruited profile of cranberry, raspberry, red plum and musk, layered with dried herbs, crushed spice and rose petal. There’s a fine minerality and distinct slatey character underneath, giving shape and freshness to what is a plush and beautifully balanced Grenache.
I see a touch of stalkiness and carbonic maceration character here, bringing energy and lift to the wine and keeping it moving forward, rolling on and on through an exceptionally long finish.
The vines were planted in 1880 on the outskirts of Lyndoch in the Barossa Valley, and there is a real sense of history and place in the glass. A wine that reflects both the site and the extraordinary age of these vines. Only 2,400 bottles produced.
This wine is deep. There is already so much to explore, but you get the feeling it is only going to build, unfurl and get better with time.
Vino Masters Score: 98 / 100
★★★★★A magnificent Barossa Valley Grenache delivering extraordinary elegance, purity and complexity, with exceptional length and outstanding old-vine character.
