Stonegarden Moppa Single Origin Ale, Barossa Valley
Stonegarden Moppa Single Origin Ale, Barossa Valley
Deep amber in colour, with rich aromas of toasted malt, caramel, dark fruit, warming spice and that unmistakable working-brewery character. Similar aromatically to the Dutton, but the Moppa has more meat on its bones, with stronger malt, roasted grain and a deeper savoury feel.
The palate is full-bodied showing layers of malt, roasted grain, dark chocolate and caramel. Dusty, green tannin-like hops provide grip and balance, giving the ale impressive depth.
This is an ale that feels almost like a refreshing meal, with weight, concentration and a very distinct flavour profile. The malt and savoury hop character roll on and on through a long finish.
There’s also a wonderfully nostalgic quality to it. It brings to mind the old Austral Hotels Sparkling Ale kegs wrapped in electric blankets to develop that rich, mature, malty character, only here the expression feels fresher, brighter and more energetic.
Vino Masters Score: 96/100 ★★★★★ A distinctive full-flavoured Moppa ale with impressive depth, savoury character and persistence.
