Hewitson Mourvèdre Ungrafted 2025, Barossa Valley
Dean Hewitson’s association with Mourvèdre is deeply rooted in the remarkable Old Garden vineyard at Rowland Flat, planted in 1853 and recognised as the oldest surviving Mourvèdre vineyard in the world. This extraordinary viticultural heritage forms an important part of the Hewitson story, reflecting a dedication to preserving and celebrating some of the Barossa Valley’s most historic vines.
Own-roots fruit, hand-picked, whole-bunch fermented in open vats, then old French barrels. Deep crimson with youthful purple. Ripe blackberry, dark plum and blueberry, then violet, liquorice, cracked pepper and earthy spice.
Full and richly textured. Concentrated dark fruit over firm, finely grained tannin. Blackberry and plum through the mid-palate, then savoury spice, dark chocolate and a little dried herb. Bright acid under the weight. Long, zippy finish.
