Atlas “The Spaniard” Tempranillo / Mataro / Grenache 2022, Clare Valley

Now moving beyond its primary phase, this blend is settling into a more savoury register. The fruit has shifted from bright reds to deeper plum and dark cherry, with secondary notes of leather, dried herbs and spice coming forward, underpinned by a gentle earthiness from the Mataro.

The palate is medium-bodied with plum and herbal tones leading, supported by fine, dusty tannins and a savoury, lightly ferrous edge. There’s a quiet warmth and generosity, but it’s the savoury detail; spice, leather and dried herbs that defines the wine.

Finishes dry and persistent, more about texture and character than fruit weight, showing the benefits of a little bottle age. Built for the table; right at home alongside game and slow-cooked meats.
