Samuel Joseph Trial Hill Grenache 2022, Barossa Valley
Samuel Joseph Trial Hill Grenache 2022, Barossa Valley.
Bottle No. 0791 / 1992
From a 90-year-old single vineyard on Trail Hill (the one I once rode my bike up!), this is 100% dry-grown Grenache, hand-picked and fermented with natural yeasts. 15% whole bunch, no new oak, unfined. Just 166 dozen produced.
Perfumed and immediately captivating, the nose opens with wild strawberry, raspberry and red cherry layered with rose petal, musk and savoury spice. There is a wonderful brightness to the fruit, balanced by earthy complexity and varietal charm.
The palate is medium-bodied and beautifully textured, delivering juicy red berry fruit before silky tannins shape the wine through an elegant frame. Notes of cherry, dark currants, spice, orange rind and dried herbs unfold, along with impressive minerality, while fresh acidity keeps everything vibrant and alive. The finish is long and mouthwateringly enjoyable!
Vino Masters Score: 97+/100
★★★★★ A beautifully expressive Grenache combining perfume, texture and delicious red fruits.
