Planta Circa Ancestor Vine Shiraz 2024, Barossa Valley

Planta Circa Ancestor Vine Shiraz 2024, Barossa Valley

Opaque crimson-purple, this ultra-rare old-vine Shiraz comes from the historic Zimmermann vineyard (Woodlands) on the outskirts of Lyndoch. Planted circa 1880 by P.F. Zimmermann, these ancient vines have produced a wine of exceptional concentration and depth.

Intensely perfumed aromas of blackberry, blueberry and satsuma plum are interwoven with dark chocolate, liquorice, black pepper and finely integrated French oak. Layers of spice, graphite and subtle floral notes add remarkable complexity, reflecting the power of these exceptional old vines.

The palate is powerful, delivering wave after wave of pristine black fruits supported by seamless tannins and beautifully judged acidity. Notes of cocoa, mocha, star anise and savoury spice build steadily before an exceptionally long, concentrated finish that displays outstanding balance and finesse. Crafted with minimal intervention by winemaker Craig Stansborough, this wine faithfully honours the history and unique site of the vineyard.
