Jim Barry ‘The Benbournie’ Cabernet Sauvignon 2014, Clare Valley
Benbournie Road, not far from Armagh. Jim Barry bought 70 acres from friend Duncan McRae Wood in 1964 and planted his first Cabernet there. Industry history in the glass.
Deep crimson with garnet. Cassis, blackberry and mulberry, then eucalypt, tobacco, cedar, dark chocolate and earth.
Full and powerful, still refined. Concentrated dark fruit, finely woven tannin, bright acid. Twelve years on: savoury, oak settled, long dry finish of cassis, spice and graphite. Drinking for pleasure this weekend? Look no further. Decant 30 minutes.
Vino Masters Score: 97/100 ★★★★★ A superb mature Clare Cabernet with concentrated cassis, savoury depth and a long graphite finish.
