First Drop “The Zenith” Shiraz 2023

Bright crimson red. The bouquet is lifted and expressive, led by blueberry and dark berry fruits with an inviting aromatic freshness. The palate is rich, ripe and deeply textural, carrying plenty of weight while framed by firm structure. Black plum and blackberry fruit are layered with savoury complexity; tea leaf, leather strap, cedar and a distinct black olive tapenade note that adds depth and a distinctly food-friendly edge.

There’s a subtle line of green bean-like acidity and a faint lemon rind nuance providing lift and tension, preventing the wine from becoming overly dense. Initially a little disjointed on opening, but it coheres with air, rewarding a decant. Tannins are firm and assertive, reinforcing the wine’s structured, savoury style. A wine that will benefit from time in bottle or aeration in youth.
