Churchview Estate Limited Release Cabernet Malbec Merlot Petit Verdot 2024, Margaret River

There’s something about a blend like this that reminds me of the kind of wine that makes you sit up and take notice. The sort of wine that brings to mind for me, Jimmy Watson BDX Trophy-winning winemaker Charlie Whish; wines with depth, structure and that little bit of magic.

The nose is dark and inviting, with cassis, blackberry and dark plum layered with cedar, dried herbs and a touch of graphite. It feels both generous and precise.

On the palate it’s medium to full-bodied, with concentrated dark fruit flowing through the entry before fine, silky tannins give the wine excellent shape and poise. Layers of blackcurrant, cocoa and savoury spice build through the mid-palate, kept bright and focused by fresh acidity. The finish is long, polished and beautifully integrated, with a lovely chalky minerality.

This is the kind of wine that doesn’t just fill a glass…it fills your mind. It makes you think of places, people, and moments. And that’s what good wine should do.

Vino Masters Score: 96/100
