Hunter Merlot is not the usual story, and this one from Pokolbin makes a good case. Deep crimson with a youthful ruby-purple rim. Ripe plum, blackberry and dark cherry, then chocolate, vanilla, dried herb and savoury spice.

Medium to full-bodied. Generous dark fruit on a smooth, rounded frame. Supple tannin. Fresh enough acid. Plum and blackberry through the mid-palate with mocha and quiet oak. Smooth, persistent finish. Food wine
